Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
Today we celebrate Saint Patrick's Day, saint patron of Ireland (Eire), and Northern Ireland!
Saint Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland during the dark ages, and paganism, and legend has it that he got rid of all the snakes on the island. He used the clover, or shamrock to explain.
It is widely celebrated in all the English spoken world.
Celebrations generally involve public parades and festivals, Irish traditional music sessions (céilithe), and the wearing of green attire or shamrocks.
Irish people, and Irish culture are very keen on folk storytelling, and many depict the Leprechauns, mythological creatures depicting little men, all dressed in green, and sporting an old hat, and a beard. It is believed that they keep a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, and that they're quite mischievous characters full of tricks.
Watch out for those little cheeky leprechauns! ;-)
