Happy Groundhog's Day!
During two sessions we learnt, along with our Language Assistant (Emma), about how the people of this quaint, and tiny village in Pennsylvania (Punxsutawney) can get the most accurate weather forecast in the world with the help of a furry little friend; "Phil", the groundhog.
This tradition derives from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerging from its burrow on this day sees its own shadow, due to clear weather, it will retreat to its den, and winter will persist for six more weeks, and if it does not see its shadow, because of cloudiness, spring will arrive early.
At the end of our session they made their own weather prediction, and this year... SPRING IS ALREADY COMING! Bye-bye, Winter!
