“Remember, remember the 5th of November…”
Tonight it is celebrated all over the U.K. Guy Fawkes Day; they set in local parks funfairs, and fairground attractions (bouncing castles, rollercoasters, magic carpets,…), lots of food stands (candy floss, hot dogs, burgers, jacket potatoes, deep fried doughnuts, “churros”,…), fireworks, and a massive bonfire with a “Guy” sitting on top.
This dummy, dressed up like a man, and filled with hay, straw, and paper represents Guy Fawkes, a 17th Century British soldier who was involved in a plan to attack the Parliament, and dethrone King James I. The plan was known as “The Gunpowder Plot”. Fawkes, and the others were stopped before they could carry out the plan.
Today in Britain people remember the failure of the plot by celebrating Guy Fawkes Day on November 5th.
